I wanted to condemn weed smoking at Ghana meets Naija but…– Kwadwo Nkansah Liwin speaks

Popular Ghanaian actor, Kwadwo Nkansah
popularly known as Liwin has disputed
reports that he promoted marijuana
smoking in Ghana at the recently held
Ghana meets Naija concert at the Accra
International Conference Center. The
Kumawood poster boy was reported to have
endorsed smoking of the plant considered
undesirable in Ghana at the fourth edition
of Ghana meets Naija last Saturday, May
24th after his performance with Guru.
According to a report by Ismail Akwei of
Ghanaweb.com, “Lil Win who was topless
carrying a polythene bag after a
performance with Guru decided to play the
role of a medical salesman but to the
dismay of the crowd, said in the Twi
language that he was selling marijuana to
cure the psychologically distressed.
In the process of explaining how marijuana
is used after giving a biblical backing to the
use of herbs, Dj Black interrupted the
actor’s speech with sounds from the
turntable and subsequently turned off his
microphone when he became adamant.
Immediately after Lil Win’s spectacle, the
MC for the night, Chris Attoh on behalf of
the organisers dissociated the concert from
the comic actor’s stance on marijuana and
described it as an act.
The headline sponsors of the Ghana Meets
Naija concert also issued a disclaimer on
the huge screens of the Conference Centre
auditorium with an apology stating that
they disapprove of any public promotion or
sale of “wee” or any illicit drug including
Lil Win’s comments on the sale of wee.”
But Liwin has disclosed to Zionfelix.com
that he never endorsed nor advised anybody
at the auditorium to smoke marijuana. The
face of Kumawood and Akoben Movie
Awards stated that he wanted to berate the
smoking of the cannabis plant but the DJ
stopped him halfway.
“I had pepper, brown substances and some
green leaves which were not weed in the
polythene I brought on stage. I wanted to
joke and condemn weed and cocaine
smoking with the things in my polythene to
the people and celebrities but the DJ did not
let me finish so i don’t understand why
people are saying I encouraged the smoking
of the drug”
He added that he is not worried about
publications that he promoted the illegal
drug at the event.
“I’m not worried at all because if I wanted
to promote marijuana, I would have done it
through movies long time” Lil Win stated.
The fourth edition of Ghana meets Naija
concert hosted by Chris Attoh at the Accra
International Conference Center on
Saturday, May 24th 2014 featured artistes
like Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Davido, Guru,
Castro, Lil Win, Kcee, Wizboyy, Selobobo,
Edem, Ak Songstress, Dobble, Koo Ntakra
